观世音菩萨是佛教中慈悲和智慧的象征，无论在大乘佛教还是在民间信仰，都具有极其重要的地位。观世音菩萨具有平等无私的广大悲愿，当众生遇到任何的痛苦和苦痛， 如能至诚称念观世音菩萨，就会得到菩萨的救护。而且，观世音菩萨最能适应众生的要求，对不同的众生，便现化不同的身相，说不同的法门。在佛教的众多菩萨中，观世音菩萨也最为民间所熟知和信仰。
世间观音相皆是观世音的应身而非本相。观世音的应身有三十二数及三十三数之说。在民间，对于观音的说法为三十三观音化身，在雕刻行业中，观音也多以三十三应身为雕刻造像基准。
卧莲观音雕刻设计为侧卧在莲花宝座上，双手合十，寓意着有求必应。杨柳观音雕刻设计成盘腿据坐，右手拿着杨柳，左手托着净瓶。白衣观音雕刻设计为盘坐在莲花台的中央，左手持莲花，或是双手结印。德玉观音雕刻设计为右手拿着杨柳，坐于崖畔。龙头观音雕刻设计为脚踏在龙头之上。……

Guanyin in the world is the corresponding body rather than the original. GuanShiYin's corresponding body has the theory of 32 and 33 numbers. In the folk, the view of Guanyin is the incarnation of 33 Guanyin. In the carving industry, Guanyin is also based on 33 Yingshen.
Lying on the lotus throne, the design of Guanyin sculpture is to lie on one's side, with hands in ten, implying that there is a need.
