常言道：“千种玛瑙，万种玉”（这里面的千、万指的是多，并不是确切的数字）。说的就是千奇百怪的玉石品种和千变万化的纹理色彩，远古时代古人赏玩玉石的初心就是赏心悦目，目前考古发现的最早的玉器比如玉玦玉珠之类的其实就是装饰品。
不同于现代人只有新疆和田玉才是真玉的狭隘的玉的观念，古人说“石之美者为玉”，尤其是上古时代只要是漂亮的石头都能称之为玉，那时候煤精、水晶、玛瑙、巴林石、天河石、绿松石、河磨玉、独山玉等等都属于玉石。只是随着商代时新疆和田玉传入内地后因为其独特的油脂光泽，优秀的韧性和较高的硬度逐渐被赋予了“玉有五德”的内涵。所以才脱颖而出，成为我们现代意义上的“真玉”。
今天不讲古玉，给大家分享这些美丽的玛瑙艺术品其实就是想让大家抛却头脑中的杂念，只是单纯地回归到古人最初欣赏美的初心，这就足矣。
